Executive Director's June Blog
One of my favorite highlights of the year has always been the San Francisco Pride celebrations. This year theme is “All in This Together,” which is a fantastic theme for our City.
We have many reasons to celebrate this June, starting with our vaccination rate. San Francisco has one of the highest vaccination rates in our country where 65% of residents 12 years and older are fully vaccinated and 77% have at least one dose of the vaccine. Thank you all for stepping up to help our great City move closer to achieving herd immunity! Your efforts to keep San Francisco safe has allowed us to open more businesses and begin our recovery, including in-person Pride events where people can share their Pride and support the LGBTQIA+ community and their health.
If you have friends or family 12 years or older who haven’t been vaccinated, now is a great time! There are many convenient locations and appointments are widely available through neighborhood pharmacies. Plus, California has a new Vax for the Win program where the next 2 million people to get vaccinated will receive $50, plus all vaccinated residents will get a chance to win $50,000 or a grand prize of $1.5 million.
After living under varying restrictions for more than a year, many of us may be feeling some level of trepidation or anxiety as we try to return to normal. I found myself questioning my own decisions as I ventured out. Which route should I take? What if I run into an unmasked crowd? I played out scenarios in my head and made plans for my safety, which I never did pre-pandemic. We’re not going to automatically become okay right away. However, if you ever feel that it’s all just too much to deal with, please reach out for help. You are not alone.
