Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it reminds us that being aware and how we act upon it, can save lives. Each year, people across the globe unite to raise awareness and support millions of people who have been affected by breast cancer.

Did you know?

  • 382,640 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
  • Although rare, men can get breast cancer too, representing about 1% of total breast cancer cases.

Whether you are a supporter, survivor, or organization, there are many ways you can take action and get involved this October.

  • Wear a pink ribbon throughout the month of October. In 1992, the pink ribbon emerged as the universal symbol for breast cancer and expanded to represent hope, bring awareness, and unite people in support of those affected by the disease.
  • Get screened. Regular screenings are one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early. Speak with your healthcare provider to understand recommended screening timelines based on your age and personal risk factors.
  • Become a community ambassador. Share educational materials, host small informational sessions, or encourage colleagues, friends, and family to stay informed about early detection and local support resources.
  • Walk for Breast Cancer. Participate in fundraising walks or community events that honor survivors, support families, and contribute to critical research.
  • Support breast cancer organizations. Donate, volunteer, or help organize local fundraising efforts to ensure ongoing support for research, patient services, and advocacy.
  • Amplify your awareness online. Use your social media platforms to highlight stories, share facts, and promote community events to help spread awareness throughout October.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is more than a campaign—it’s a collective movement toward early detection, increased understanding, and compassionate support. Every action, big or small, contributes to strengthening our communities and offering hope to those impacted by breast cancer.
