Executive Director's June 2024 Message

The weather is warming up just in time for Pride Month. Last month, we had a fantastic Bay to Breakers run with some very creative costumes. Did anyone see the Sandworm from the Dune movie or the team of Tesla Cybertrucks? It was a glowing example of what makes San Francisco such a special place to live and work. Every event seems to set the bar for the next event, so I can’t wait to see this month’s SF Pride Parade and celebration, where Grammy, Emmy, and 2x Tony Award winner, Billy Porter, will be our Grand Marshal. This year’s theme is Beacon of Love, which is to “signal once more that the city of San Francisco stands for love, life, and liberty.” Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 30th, because you will not want to miss this year’s parade.

We are also excited to share a new Gender Affirming Care resource page. The Health Service System's healthcare partners have long offered gender dysphoria treatment, and we understand that it can be confusing and challenging to know where to start or how to access care. This page has resources from all of our health plan partners about their process and how to get started.

June is also Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day. Please encourage the men in your lives to attend their annual preventative care appointments, including their wellness exams, physicals, and prostate exams. A proactive focus on men’s health will ensure many more years where you can celebrate their lives and accomplishments.
